• Students will create three or more sketches in their sketch jounal of ideas for a design using ancient Egyptian symbols. How can you create your name in Ancient Egyptian Hieroglyphs? How did the Nile River environment influence Ancient Egyptian Motifs in Artwork? What is a theme in an Artwork? What is a motif? How can you analyze artifacts and create your own artwork? What is a Cartouche? How can you create a cartouche with your name? Supplies: Art Sketch Journals, Pencil, Ancient Egyptian Hieroglyph Chart with our Alphabet translation, Clay (try different types of self-hardening clay or Sculpey if you are supervised by an adult). If you do not have clay be creative try cardboard! Design Your Name in a CartoucheDesign your name in an oval on sketch paper first. The size is around 1" x 3". Use clay to engrave your design. Make a small hole in the top for string. Paint the hardened clay. If you do not have clay then make the cartouche with recycled cardboard.
Elaborate with with string and beads.(Try making Paper beads with recycled magazine paper. Print the template for the beads on an 8 1/2" x 11" piece of paper) After cutting the triangle shapes, apply glue and roll the magazine paper around a small stick to make a bead!
