Try making a clock at home with found objects! A color wheel clock like the one in the Hollydale art room would be an idea you could try. Research designer clocks. Review collage on Cobb Digital Library - Brainpop Jr - Art. Collage with recycled items, circle boxes, cardboard, magazines, fabric, paint, beads. Creativity is limitless. |
Symbols in Art:
Terri Suraco, BFA, MA Ed
Hollydale students viewed a PowerPoint on personal, cultural and universal symbols. They also analyzed the Artwork of Peter Max.
For inspiration the student’s listened to a radio interview about how Peter Max painted the statue of liberty series. He helped raise $260 million to help restore the Statue of Liberty!
Hollydale students designed and painted a personal symbol in red, white and blue to create a mural in the cafeteria. The Hollydale Art club painted the Statue of Liberty in the style of Peter Max. The 4th grade music students performed patriotic songs on September 11, 2014 with the backdrop the Art Students created.

Mrs. Suraco Art Education Teacher BioWelcome to Hollydale Elementary Art Education blog by Art Educator, Mrs. Suraco. I have taught fine arts at cultural arts programs and public school for more than fourteen years. I have a masters degree in Art Education from Georgia State University. My undergraduate work was done at Michigan State University and Kendall College of Art and Design where I received a BFA. Before teaching fine art I worked in Los Angeles as a licensed product designer and Art Director. I have always had a passion for art and enjoy teaching and producing art. My teaching philosophy consists of an interdisciplinary approach to the art education classroom to help students connect concepts to the real world. The technology used in the art room is Macintosh based. The students also use Promethean active charts, where students can interact on a white board with the Internet to view websites, Powerpoints, videos, photos, flip charts and have access to writing and drawing tools. I enjoy sharing my enthusiasm for technology, fine art and design with art education students.
